The Money Museum arrived in the city of Porto
Money Museum is outside!
Now it is possible to get to know a little about the Money Museum in the city of Porto. From November 2nd until October 2024, the Banco de Portugal Branch will receive an adaptation of the exhibition “The Value of Trust in Money” (2018/2019).
The Money Museum thus seeks to fulfill its mission of making the main functions of Banco de Portugal known to an increasingly wider audience.
Trust, counterfeiting and security are the three focuses of this exhibition, which was previously presented to the public at the Money Museum, in Lisbon.
Extraordinary instruments, documents and objects allow the themes to be contextualized. It is possible to test the money we use every day with laboratory equipment, discover the brands and secrets of genuine coins and notes, and recognize the physical characteristics that make the euro a safe and reliable means of payment.
With a strong pedagogical component, the exhibition presents Banco de Portugal's daily work in protecting public trust in money, by maintaining the quality of euro notes and coins and combating counterfeiting.
“The Value of Trust in Money” is on display at the Banco de Portugal facilities in Porto — at Praça da Liberdade, 92 —, with free entry, from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.
