Money Museum is the Best Museum 2017
Banco de Portugal’s Money Museum has been named 'Best Museum 2017' given by the Portuguese Museology Association (Associação Portuguesa de Museologia - APOM).
During a ceremony that took place in Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis, in Porto, the Money Museum’s work during its first year of operation was acknowledged, in terms of both its exhibitions and cultural programmes/activities.
According to Carlos da Silva Costa, Governor of Banco de Portugal: “The Money Museum is a key project in the Bank’s objective of openness to society, and winning this major national award fills us with pride. However, it also imposes greater responsibilities on us, to maintain the variety and quality of the Museum’s activities, and to keep on investing in knowledge-building, thus contributing to a better informed society on economic and financial issues. We have only just begun.”
In addition to the 'Best Museum 2017' award, the Money Museum has also won a special mention in the category of best website.
APOM’s awards acknowledge the agents and institutions in the field of Portuguese museology whose work was particularly noteworthy in the course of the year. The awards cover several categories and aim at fostering and awarding the imagination and creativity of Portuguese museum experts, thereby recognising their actual contribution to improving the quality of museums in Portugal. It is also a way of giving visibility to what is best in terms of Portuguese museology.
These awards are presented by APOM every year. 132 applications were sent for this year’s awards.
