Opening of the exhibition "Let us common citizens take the word and the initiative"
“Let us common citizens take the word and the initiative” José Saramago's phrase, uttered at the award of the Nobel Prize for Literature 25 years ago, inspired the “Declaration of Human Duties” and gave the title to the exhibition of photographs by Gervasio Sánchez, which you can visit at the Money Museum until 31 March 2024.
"So let us, ordinary citizens, take the word and the initiative: With the same vehemence with which we demand our rights, let us also demand our duties. Maybe then the world can be a little better." The immortal phrase uttered by the Nobel Prize winner for Literature, in Stockholm, inspired the "Universal Charter of Duties and Obligations of Human Beings" and is evoked in this exhibition by the José Saramago Foundation, in the year that marks the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
After March 31, the exhibition will tour the country in locations where Banco de Portugal is present.
